I have the same question as the person above. I installed an aftermarket stereo in a 08 dodge ram 1500 using a scocshe modulator. It only had the big connector but no place for the small one. After installation. Right front speaker will not play. What could be the problem. anyone know?

I am trying to install an aftermarket stereo in my 2008 dodge ram. I noticed when I disconnected my stock stereo it had two separate wire harnesses connected to it. The aftermarket wiring harness I purchased only supports one of the connectors. Do I need to be concerned about the smaller connector? I went ahead and installed my new stereo with the harness I purchased and I could only turn the stereo on when I pressed the power button. It will not turn on and off with my ignition switch. How can I fix this? When my new stereo is on no sound comes out of the speakers. Does that have something to do with the reason it will not turn on with the ignition switch, or does is it because that smaller factory harness connector is not connected? anyone?

Thanks one and all for the good help! After all that, I decided to run the trigger wire from the switched cigar lighter through a 1.5 amp in-line fuse then through a lighted rocker switch. The reason for this is that I listen often to “talk” radio and don’t need the “basem*nt” sounds in the Rusher’s voice…. Many thanks again for all the help. By the way, I figured that a lighted switch (RED) would get my attention if placed in a highly-visible location close to the ignition switch. I’ll let you know (or maybe not) if I end up with a dead battery caused by forgetting to turn off the switch.

Bill, using a 610-ohm resistor, tap the violet/brown wire in the ignition switch harness as a trigger wire for your powered subwoofer. Hope this helps. Good luck with your 2008 Dodge Ram 1500 subwoofer installation.

Thank you, ModifiedLife, for your comment. Could you please clarify exactly what wire you are referring to?? I assume it is one of the wires in the radio wiring harness that can be accessed by pulling out the radio.

Bill, technically you could connect your 2008 Dodge Ram 1500 amplifier turn on wire to the radio switched 12v+ wire. That way your amplifier is on whenever your 2008 Dodge Ram 1500 is on and off whenever your 2008 Dodge Ram 1500 is off. Just make sure to run an in-line fuse holder with a 1-amp fuse on the amplifier turn on wire. Hope this helps. Good luck with your 2008 Dodge Ram 1500 amplifier installation.

is there a place other than the ignition switch to attach a powered subwoofer trigger wire so that the sub only comes on when the radio is turned on. there is no trigger wire on the stock radio i have. my vehicle is a 2008 dodge ram hemi 1500 truck.

Wes, run a wire to the steering column and use the violet/brown wire in the ignition switch harness as a switched power source for your aftermarket radio. Hope this helps. Good luck with your 2008 Dodge Ram 1500 stereo installation.

im about to install an aftermarket deck in my truck, it has a cd player with the 4 speaker package. the guy at Best Buy tried to sell me some $130 modulator (part # CHTO-013) he said it was because the power for the radio comes from the ignition or something along those lines. i have swapped out older car stereo’s and all i had to do was buy a simple harness kit. i have looked around online and some people are saying that i can use the power line for my cigarette lighter because the power line from the factory harness is not powerful enough. what is the best way to get power to my new stereo?? Thank You
